In the United States the flu season is typically in the fall and winter months. The peak of flu season usually falls between late November through March. The flu comes from the influenza virus which primarily infects the nose and throat. The effects of the flu vary in severity.

Most people who get the flu do not need medical care and will want to stay home and avoid close contact with others as much as possible. Despite this, there are people who are at high risk of flu-related complications which can result in hospitalizations and sometimes death.
