Healthy Waterville Subgroups

Learning and Leading

Healthy Waterville Action Team Subgroups are stakeholders who convene meetings around topics areas identified by Action Team members. Team members are learning about food equity, food systems, food waste & recovery, gleaning, grow-your-own food models, and mobile pantries. Development learning includes: group process, leadership skills, meeting facilitation, community engagement tips, conducting surveys, and researching community assets.

Over the last year we have accomplished a lot towards our goals as individual Action Team members, and as a community. I can't wait to see the strides we make in 2017!

- Community Food Equity Coordinator, Kelly LaCasse

Debbie Dornish - Transportation Leader

Transportation Subgroup - Our strategy is to increase access to fresh nutritious food by breaking down transportation barriers by partnering with Kennebec Valley Community Action Explorer, Sustain-MidMaine transportation,   the City of Waterville and the Waterville Food Bank.

City Garden Subgroup - Starting in Spring 2017 we are working to rejuvenate existing city garden sites and create new gardens.  We plan on providing learn and grow opportunities for Waterville residents and grow food for community meal sites.

Cynthia Muniz - City Garden Leader

Bridgette Gemelli - Youth Engagement Leader

Healthy Waterville Youth Engagement Subgroup is raising the voices of our youth and empowering them to be a force at the table.  Our group is working to increase awareness of youth hunger, decrease stigma around school meals and direct positive change within our community.

Food Recovery Subgroup -  Formed in December 2016 after viewing the film "Just Eat It" in November. Our primary goal is to move fresh, nutritious food, that otherwise would be wasted, to our partner agencies Evening Sandwich Program, Waterville Food Bank and Spectrum Generations to enjoy.

Scott McAdoo - Food Recovery Leader

We created the Waterville Food Resource Guide to combine, update and streamline information, direct people in need of food to our community assets and highlight volunteer opportunities
