WHY Canary Measure?

Canary Measure is a tool that allows community leaders to explore the interaction of a neighborhood’s conditions on health behaviors which affect health outcomes.

Where people live, learn, work, and play affects their health. For example, one neighborhood may have access to a local grocery store that sells fresh produce, while another neighborhood is filled with corner stores and fast-food restaurants. Ease of access often dictates behavior. Therefore, people living in the neighborhood without a local grocer may experience poor health outcomes related to poor food choices.

Canary Measure allows users to explore these factors using an interactive format combining mapping and data to inform discussions and guide decision-making.

Canary Measure opens the door for multi-sector collaboration to create targeted and sustainable solutions that promote health and well-being.
