Frequently Asked Questions
How does this work?
When you create a profile here, the information you enter will help determine where you can find the best support for your situation. As the response evolves over the course of this disaster and beyond, our hope is that you will be able to utilize the profile created here to screen for program eligibility for many different types of aid, whether that is flood or other disaster-related relief or social benefit programs.
I already completed a request for your help on whatcomestrong.com, why do I need to create a new one?
The Whatcom Strong website is an amazing example of the collaboration between local leaders in response to the recent flood events. However, that original website was meant to be a short-term answer and this resource page is a longer-term coordinated solution involving those same local leaders. Because protecting your privacy is of utmost importance, we cannot migrate the information you entered there over to this site, and so it is necessary to ask that you create a profile and enter the information again. The good news is that your new Whatcom Strong profile is updatable. No more starting from scratch.
What types of resources are available now?
Currently thanks to the many generous donors to the Resilience Fund, there are several local organizations providing immediate relief to people affected by the recent flood events. North Sound Accountable Community of Health and Catholic Community Services are two examples.
Why are there so many questions?
Because the response to the recent flood events is changing so rapidly, we are finding it necessary to pivot quickly to respond to the changing needs around what information is needed and who needs it. Additional questions may be added to your profile, and you will receive an email notifying you when this happens. Please note, answering the questions on this profile helps everyone in the community. Collecting flood damage information in aggregate for all of Whatcom County will enable both public and private entities to work to meet the broader needs of your neighbors also affected by the recent floods.
