Women of Skid Row

- What's Next -

Currently, the Learning Collaborative decided to focus on chronic diseases in order to address the multiple, complex needs of the community. The coalition, now renamed the Skid Row Chronic Disease Learning Collaborative, is meeting to continue the work from last year. We are currently in the process of developing Phase 2 of the walking group, which will run from May to June 2017! The walking group plans to implement a train-the-trainer model in order to invite community members to lead future walking group programs, as a sustainable and culturally appropriate solution to chronic disease prevention and management in the Skid Row Community.

Another evidenced-based program is being implemented, focusing on diabetes education and empowerment skills and strategies for pre-diabetics and diabetics. This program, called the Diabetes Empowerment Education Program, is currently being implemented at the Downtown Women's Center for participants who are pre-diabetic or diabetic.
